The Enchanting Birds of Abra Patricia
At the heart of our journey lies Abra Patricia, perched high on the majestic cliffs of Alto Mayo. This birdwatching hotspot is a paradise for nature lovers, where the forest canopy transforms into a colorful tapestry of life. The air is alive with the calls of stunning species like the Gorriblancas (White-winged Tanagers), Verde Esmeraldas (Emerald Green Tanagers), and the vibrant Coroniazufranes (Golden-crowned Warblers). Bird North of Peru -Though the Mayo River lowlands have given way to agriculture, pockets of pristine forests and protected areas persist as sanctuaries for birdlife. Northern Peru’s legacy as a birding haven remains intact, beckoning you to explore and experience a symphony of wings, colors, and calls.

Day 01: Chiclayo- Bosque Pomac – Olmos – Bird North of Peru
Today we will travel from Chiclayo to Bosque Pomac, at Bosque Puma’s dry forest we will look for: Peruvian Plant Cutter, Rufous Flycatcher, Tumbes Swalow, Scarlet Backed Woodpecker, Necklaced Spinetail, and Cinereous Finch.
after birding Bosque Pomac we will continue to Olmos pass and Quebrada limon in order to see the endemic White
winged Guan, Tumbes Tyrant, Elegant Crescentchest, Guayaquil woodpecker, Red masked Parakeet among other birds; we will spend the night at Olmos in a local Hotel.
Day 02: Olmos – Limon de Purcoya – Jaen – Bird North of Peru
This day we will travel to Limon the Purcoya very, the area is a very good site for birding where we can see. Piura
Chat Tyrant, Chapman´s Antshire, Black Cowlet Saltator, Ecuadorian piculet, Rufous Necked Foliage gleaner, Henna
Hooded Foliage Gleaner, Purcoya Hermit and Bay Crowned Brush Finch. After explore the area we will continue towards Jaenñ before Jaen we will make a stop in order to find the following species: Little Inca Finch, Marañon Crescent chest, Chichipe Spinetail and Marañon Slaty Antshire.
Day 03: Jaen – Pomacochas or Florida – Bird North of Peru
Today in our way to Pomacochas we will look for the following species: Little Inca Finch, Spotted Rail, Marañon
Spinetail, Yellow Tailed Oriole, Marañon Thrush, and Buff Bellied Tanager, besides the birds mentioned above we
can also several species of hummingbirds, seedeaters. In this day we will have the chance to see the Endemic and
very Famous Marvelous Spatuletail; humming like Little Woodstar, purple Collared Woodstar, Purple Throated Sunangel, Andean Emerald can also be found in the area. We will spend the Night at Puma cochas.
Day 04: Pomacochas- Abra Patricia – Bird North of Peru
This day we will look for the very elusive Rusty tinged Antpitta, as well as for Russet mantled Softailm, Blackish
Tapaculo, Red Hooded Tanager, and White capped Diper. At our Lodge in Abra Patricia we will spend two nights; in the area we will look for the famous long whiskered Owlet.
Day 05: Abra Patricia lodge area all day – Bird North of Peru
Along the road on the cloud forest this day we will look for very nice to tanagers, flycatchers, and Endemic Species like: Speckle Chested Piculet, Ocre Fronted Antpitta, Bar Winged Wood wren, Royal Sunangel, cinnamon Breasted
tody Tyrant, Inca Flycatcher, Vermilion Tanager, Ecuadorian Pietail, Andean Cock of the Rock, Red Ruffd Fruitcrow,
White Capped tanager, Yellow Scarf Tanager, Chestnut Crestescotinga Lulu´s Tody Flycatcher, Chestnut Antpitta and a lot more bird species.
Day 06: Abra Patricia – Rioja – Bird North of Peru
In our way to Rioja, we will have the chance to see species like: Golden Collared Honeycreeper, Virsicolored Barbet,
Black Bellied Tanager, Lanceolated Monklet, Masket Trogon, Crested Quetzal, Speckle Chested Piculet, Blue Browed
Tanager, White Collared Jay, Crimson Mantled Woodpecker,White Capped Diper, Point Tailed Palmcreeper, Russet
Crowned Crake, Yellow Tyrannulet, Stripe Necked Tody Tyrant and Blakish Rail. We will spend the night at Rioja in a local Hotel.
Day 07: Rioja – Wakanky Lodge (Moyobamba) .
This day we will start Birding at Morro de Calzada community, in the area we will look for some endemic species; in
the artea we can see species like: Misshana Tyranunnlet, Red legged Honeycreeper, Red billed Tyrannulet, Stripe
Manakin, Cinereous Breasted Spinetail, lafresnaye´spiculet, Buff Throated Tody Tyrant, Fiery capped Manakin and
pale Breasted Thrush. Later we will continue towards Wakanky Lodge; at the lodge there are some hummingbird feeders that attract several species of hummingbirds, there you will have the chance to take some photos.
Day 08: Wakanky – Tarapoto .
In the morning we will look for birds around the Loge as we well as we along of some of the trails that are found close
to the lodge; we can find in the area the following birds: Fiery throated Fruiteater, White bellied Tody Tyrant, White
Plumed Antbird, Spot Backed Antbird, Cerulean Warbler, Black and white tody tyrant, Short Tailed pygmy Tyrant,
Black faced Tanager Misshana Tyrannulet among other birds. Later we will return to the lodge in order to pick up our luggage and continue traveling towards Tarapoto where we can have the chance to see the special Oilbird.
Day 9: Tarapoto – Yurimaguas – Tarapoto
This day we will have the chance to see the following species: Spotted Tanager, Plumbeous Euphonia, Koepcke´s
Hermit, Masked Tanager, Blackish Pewee, Dotted Tanager, Slaty capped Shrike vireo, Solitary Eagle, Scaled pigeon and a lot more bird species.
10: Tarapoto – Lima .
Before head to the airport in Tarapoto we will visit Juanjui, in the area we will look for: Rusty Backed Antwren,
Peruvian meadowlark, Spotted Rail, Oriole Black Bird, Marañon Slaty Antshrike, Coraya Wren, Sulphur Bellied
Tyrant Manakin, White Browed Antbird, and Hoatzin. Later we will head to the airport in order to take the plane to Lima; at the airport our services end.
